TEMPUS is one of the European Union’s programmes which support the modernisation of higher education in the Partner Countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean region, mainly through university cooperation projects. 

Tempus provides support to consortia of institutions composed mainly of universities or university associations, as well as non-academic partners.

NATIONAL TEMPUS OFFICE IN KAZAKHSTAN

The TEMPUS Programme had been started in Kazakhstan in 1995. Altogether during past period 59 projects have been implemented. The total grant amount is 37.453.994,76 Euro. Among them 23 national and 36 regional projects.

The National Tempus Office (NTO) was inaugurated in June, 2005, in Almaty. Activities of the NTO aim to stimulate implementation of Kazakhstan educational policy priorities in higher education and facilitate integration of Kazakhstan higher education into the European educational area.

Its main activities include:

·         Provision of the information support regarding the TEMPUS programme

·         TEMPUS projects monitoring.

·         Assisting in searching partner-institutions for applying for TEMPUS grants.

·         Promoting networking among on-going TEMPUS projects teams.

·         Coordination of the National Team of Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs).
